General Information:
In Höganäs which is part of the dramatic and beautiful Kullen Peninsula, the industry is carried on that gave the town its name almost 300 years ago. In addition to the preservation of its fascinating history, Höganäs AB is also a manufacturer of earthenware and pottery on a large scale, products which are sold to other industries and can be found in many homes. Höganäs salt glazed pots, bottles, bowls, and jugs have the same quality today as they always have. Once a week beautiful and durable objects leave the factory, unique hand made products with the characteristic fireproof design.
If you are there you can share the excitement of the moment. A lucky baking is celebrated with a little meal. An unlucky baking (it does not happen often) we lament together…
A large handiwork tradition has built up around the Kullen Peninsula with the unique clay as raw material. Several of the potters in town have worked for generations and will gladly tell their story for visitors. Here you find artists who are as involved with the sale of everyday cookware as with more fancy items.
Höganäs Ceramics, another world famous brand, lies in Höganäs Design and Outlet Village along with other well known lines: Ittala, Kosta Boda, among others. Their copper, dishes, bowls and glass are created for a dining experience beyond the ordinary.
The coastline around the Kullen Peninsula varies from sandy beaches to dramatic cliff formations. Kullaberg is a nature reserve that is comparable to the Dolomites and is said to be northern Europe’s best diving and climbing area. Here the Lord of the Rings has played in: the high knotty trees create a green roof over your path, alternating with steep cliff walls, small bays and caves. Here Linnaeus wandered as well as Tycho Brahe who one time owned the whole mountain. Mankind left its mark in the caves as long as sixteen thousand years ago. Here it is easy to stay several hours. Suddenly you find yourself eager to enjoy a pause and a picnic!
Stay several days – a week – and enjoy – the year around!
