Carl Linnaeus and the Lagom Land

CarlvonLinne_Hammarby Foto Andreas Trepte.jpgThe Atlantic Magazine journalist Emely Hiestand returns to Stockholm to visit the home of the famous botanist Carl Linnaeus. Afterwards she published a philosophic slideshow image of Sweden. Listen to her sensuous explanation for the Swedish expression “Lagom”. No other language have an accurate translation to this word so typical for Swedes to use in all situations!

Take a seven minutes break and get the short story by her telling us about the characteristics of Swedes and Sweden. The pictures are mainly from Stockholm which also give you an idea of the wide variety of nature in Sweden.

And the summer in not so far away!

Walnut treeStall Stingsson i OsbyLinnaeus had no time to make the journey to Skåne until spring 1749. One of the expedition’s missions was to find out the best location to grow Walnut and Swedish White beam. These woods were used to make the butts to the rifles for the military. (more…)
