Scandinavia is cheaper than you think
UK travellers believe a trip Sweden, Norway and Switzerland will cost them the most – yet France is actually the most expensive country to visit, according to research conducted by flight comparison site Skyscanner. Surprisingly, the Scandinavian countries of Sweden and Norway were far lower down when ranked by actual cost, taking places 13 and 18 respectively.
The survey of 1,500 UK consumers found that while Brazil was perceived as a cheap destination 21 out of 30 countries, it was actually fourth most expensive when factoring in car hire, hotel accommodation and food and beverage costs and second most expensive if flights were also included in calculations. Conversely, Dubai was perceived as fifth most expensive country but actually came in at 12, or 14 with flights included in the survey of 30 countries.
France, Switzerland, Denmark, Brazil and Russia were the five most expensive countries once on the ground; with Cyprus, Greece, South Africa, the Dominican Republic and Morocco the most budget-friendly.
