Royal City Walks In Stockholm

During the summer of 2010 the Stockholm City Museum will be reveling in royalty and is offering three completely new City Walks centering on princesses, the Bernadotte Family and Birger Jarl. The City Walks are part of the museum’s regular program, part of the Love Stockholm 2010 event and part of the Culture Festival. The duration of the walk is approximately 1.5 – 2 hours with a total of 30 participants on each walk.

The Royal Bernadotte Family, weddings and brides. Exactly 200 years ago, Jean Baptiste Bernadotte ascended the Swedish throne. How was it possible that a Frenchman became the king of Sweden and which significance do royal weddings and their brides have on the survival of a royal dynasty? You will get both facts and the odd tale from a number of Bernadotte weddings – from Crown Prince Oskar’s and Josefina’s wedding, to Crown Princess Victoria’s and Princess Madeleine’s weddings. Gathering at the Royal Castle’s outer courtyard, between the two wings.

Princesses of Stockholm. The 19th of June is the day of all days – and in the fall there’s another! Two very special Stockholm girls are getting married this year – and we all know who they are. We will compare Princesses Victoria’s and Madeleine’s day and night lives with those of their predecessors. We’ll center upon power, treachery, unholy alliances and the aim to strengthen the monarchies of Europe. Colorful princesses have spellbound us for centuries!
