Fermented Herring and Other Swedish Traditional

Locals gathering in Lerberget for a Crayfish party or SurströmmingFermented herring, or in Swedish “Surströmming” is not the most appetizing of Swedish delicacies. So when Rob Hincks took his place at a table of practiced Northerners for the largest festival of its kind in Sweden, he didn’t think he would end up thanking his rotten luck.

Read the rest of to his experience on www.sweden.se. This used to be a strong traditional celebration in the northern part of Sweden. Today it has spread all over the country. Something tells me that it cannot be that bad to eat as it is to smell. Suggest you read Hinck story and then get back to me if you will give it a try while you are here:)

Eel Festival Settings in ÅhusSoon we will join the giant crayfish parties in Helsingborg and Malmö, Herring Festival in Simrishamn, and Eel Celebrations in Åhus. During September we also look forward to the annual Food Festival in Helsingborg with guided gourmet tasting tours every day the whole month, ending with a Slow Food Gourmet Dinner at Gastro Restaruant.
